全国、そして世界の皆さまこんにちは！Rare Disease Day（世界希少・難治性疾患の日）Japanの公式ウェブサイトを訪れていただき誠にありがとうございます。
今年のテーマは「つながるちから～Take Action Now～」です。それぞれの個人・組織・業界などが、希少難治性疾患領域の発展に取り組んでいる今だからこそ、これらの価値ある力をつなぎ、行動に結びつけていくこと、それがRDD2018の目標です。
全国各地の会場にご来場、また、ライブ動画をご視聴の皆様とともに、つながることの喜びやワクワク感を味わい、イベントの後には新たな力がみなぎっているような、そんな場をつくってまいりたいと存じます。
皆様の力を「つなげて」まいりましょう！

Greeting for Rare Disease Day 2018 in Japan
Rare diseases affect an estimated 350 million people worldwide, making diagnosing, understanding and
treating these disorders a global imperative. The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences
(NCATS) supports collaborative and innovative approaches to research on rare diseases. Partnering
The International Rare Diseases Research Consortium (IRDiRC), which I chair, connects public and private sector funders of research, patient advocacy groups, and scientific researchers to advance rare diseases worldwide. Japan is a central and invaluable contributor to IRDiRC, and hosted the most recent IRDiRC meeting in Tokyo. IRDiRC recently released a new set of global rare disease goals for the upcoming decade 2017-2027, which will advance the Consortium’s vision that all people living with a rare disease to receive an accurate diagnosis, care, and available therapy within one year of coming to medical attention.
It is an honor and a privilege to join my Japanese colleagues in commemorating Rare Disease Day 2018.

希少疾患は世界中で推定3億5千万人が罹患しており、これらの疾患の診断、理解、そして治療は世界的にも解決すべき課題です。
NCATS（国立トランスレーショナルサイエンス（橋渡し）推進センター）は、希少疾病の研究領域における連携ならびに革新的取り組みを支援しています。実験室の発見から健康への利益まで、（基礎研究で得られた成果を臨床に使える医療技術・医薬品として確立する）橋渡し研究では、患者と研究者とのパートナーシップが必要不可欠であり、私達NCATSミッションの根幹です。
また、私が議長を務める国際希少疾患研究コンソーシアム（IRDiRC）は、世界中の希少疾患領域研究を促進させるため、公的および民間部門の研究助成機関、患者組織および患者支援組織、そして研究者をつないでいます。日本はIRDiRCの中心的かつ貴重な貢献国であり、先日東京でIRDiRC会議を開催したばかりです。 先日、IRDiRCは組織の新たな目標となる2017-2027年プランを発表しました。私たちは、全ての希少疾患の患者が、治療が必要な状況になってから1年以内に正確な診断・ケア・治療を受けることを可能にすることを目標にします。
私にとって、Rare Disease Day2018 in Japanの開催を祝し、皆さんの仲間として加わることは何よりも光栄なことです。盛会を心より祈念申し上げます。
